Spending a day out that the whole family will enjoy can be challenging. Finding activities and places that everyone will love is hard, especially if everyone has different preferences and some kids have reached the stage of wanting to be left alone. However, visiting the World’s Fair Park Knoxville is sure to be a fun day for the entire family. Visit the Tennessee Amphitheater, Volunteer Landing, or Performance Lawn. The park’s hours are 6:00 a.m. until midnight and the fountain hours are 10:00 a.m. through 9:00 p.m.
Visit the Tennessee Amphitheater
Built for the 1982 World’s Fair, the Tennessee Amphitheater, along with the Sunsphere, remain the only structures left of the 1982 World’s Fair. Even after the World Fair ended, the amphitheater was used for other events until closed in 1998 for renovation and closed again in 2002 due to structural damage. In 2005, Mayer Bill Haslam announced that the Tennessee Amphitheater and Sunsphere would be repaired. Both now are open to the public as a park.
Enjoy Volunteer Landing
Originally the site of the Holston Treaty, Volunteer Landing was envisioned to become a waterfront destination for visitors and inhabitants of Knoxville. The waterfront has gone through a series of developments that make Volunteer Landing a beautiful addition to the park. Enjoy jogging, walking, a picnic, or water sports while at Volunteer Landing.
Spend time on Performance Lawn
The newest addition to the World’s Fair Park Knoxville, Performance Lawn is bigger than the size of two football fields and is now reopened to the public. Concerts, festivals, and other special events are hosted on Performance Lawn and the attached Greenway. When events are occurring, Performance Lawn and the Greenway will be closed to those not attending the events during their scheduled times.
