As the temperature climbs, it often becomes more and more difficult to find outfits that are, not just physically, but also fashionably cool. We may be tempted to run around in shorts and tanks to beat the heat, but such attire isn’t always appropriate for every setting. Don’t sweat it! We have some tips that can help you stay breezy and beautiful, no matter how hot it gets.
Keep it Loose
When the summer sun is beating down, airflow is your best friend. Rather than tight-fitting clothing, opt for garments that touch your body as little as possible. Think sleeveless blouses, wide-leg crop pants, oversized tops, button-up shirts, and flowy skirts and dresses.
Fabric Matters
The material from which a garment is made is equally as important as its fit, when it comes to keeping you cool. What you’ll want to look for is clothing made from natural fabrics that are breathable or those that trap moisture. Your best bets are linen, cotton, and silk. Avoid synthetics and denim, one of the heaviest fabrics around. Even the color of the fabric is important. White and light colors reflect the sun’s rays, making them a much better option than darker colors which absorb them.
Work Out Wisely
While most athletic wear is made from moisture-wicking fabric, it’s also often tight. If you’re headed outside or to the gym during the summer months it might be a good idea to swap your yoga pants and sweatshirts for looser-fitting shorts and tank tops.

Accessorize Minimally
The same rules apply to accessories as to clothing. Choose materials and colors that won’t get as hot and that don’t touch you excessively. For example, you could go for a statement ring or some bold earrings as opposed to a mixture of dangling metal necklaces or bracelets. And swap your closed-toed shoes for strappy sandals or espadrilles.
We can’t promise it’ll cool off any time soon. But we can assure you that you can survive the heat and still look stylish doing it. Have fun showing off your summer style!
